Raised nearly $20,000 and reached over 350,000 views on YouTube
Film is a powerful medium. Not only can it be used to tell a fun story or give someone a quick laugh, it can be used to raise awareness. Edified care is a non-profit company dedicated to helping others in need. In 2018, Edified Care began helping the Brown family, who had just suffered a tragedy. Allison Brown’s 19-year-old daughter, Danielle, had suffered a debilitating stroke while attending college. As a single mother, Allison struggled to provide financial support for Danielle; the family was being contacted by the state about Danielle’s student loans and medical bills.
Unable to leave their handicap-inaccessible apartment, Allison had exercised every option before reaching out to Edified Care. Allison wanted to have a platform to speak about the horrible situation she and her family were living through. I worked with Edified Care to share the Brown family's story. I put together a team of people to help create a film that would be shared at fundraisers and on YouTube. After meeting the Brown Family and establishing goals, I compiled a list of interview questions that would allow the family's story and Edified Care's role in helping them to be accurately represented and subsequently interview each family member.
Shortly after the video's creation and showcasing at a local fundraiser, we were able to raise $10,000. Before Danielle's passing in 2023, the family's story went viral on YouTube, raising a total of $20,000 and reaching over 350,000 views.
